DeVos Art Museum in Marquette, MI

Located on the Northern Michigan University campus, The DeVos Art Museum has over 1,500 pieces of art. It is separated into a rotating gallery and a permanent gallery. The rotating gallery contains traveling exhibits and student art. The museum’s permanent collection includes Inuit, Japanese, Native American art, and artifacts. 

The DeVos Art Museum works to foster creativity in the community. The knowledgeable museum staff will assist with any questions you might have about the exhibits. The DeVos Art Museum is part of Northern Michigan University’s School of Art and Design. 

Marquette Maritime Museum in Lake Superior

The Marquette Maritime Museum is a regional museum and lighthouse located on the shores of Lake Superior. The maritime museum covers the nautical history of Marquette and Lake Superior. The facility also has the still operating Marquette Harbor Light. The iconic red lighthouse is one of the jewels of Marquette. 

The McClintock Annex tells the astonishing story of the submarines USS Darter in the World War II Battle of Leyte Gulf. The annex is named after Marquette native Captain David McClintock, the commander of the USS Darter during the battle. The exbibit contains a working World War II periscope. 

Presque Isle Park on Lake Superior

Presque Isle Park is a 323-acre peninsula with forests that extends into Lake Superior. Almost an island, Presque Isle Park has more than 100 species of plants including majestic Lombardy Poplars. The park is home to Canada geese, white-tailed deer, and raccoons. The deer population have some rare albino deer with snow-white fur. If you’re lucky, you might see one of these “ghost” deer! 

The park is connected to the inland with a thin piece of land, and the majority of the facilities are close to the park entrance. Presque Isle Park has hiking trails, playgrounds, the Island Store, two picnic areas, restrooms, and a bandshell for concerts. You can drive around the island on the scenic Peter White Drive loop.
