Lakenenland Sculpture Park in Marquette County, MI

Lakenenland Sculpture Park is a 37-acre park with an eclectic collection of outdoor sculptures. The metal sculptures are all made by Tom Lakenen, a Marquette resident. Lakenen is a welder and started making sculptures out of scrap metal in his spare time. 

In 2003, he purchased land beside M-28 and created Lakenenland. The sculpture park has more than 80 iron sculptures including dinosaurs, flowers, and spaceships. There is also a bandshell for concerts. 

Lakenenland is free to the public and great for the whole family. The park has hosted many charitable events for the Salvation Army and other organizations. 

Sugarloaf Mountain in Marquette Township, Michigan

Sugarloaf Mountain is a hiking mountain in Marquette Township overlooking Lake Superior. The granite mountain is 470 feet above the lake. 

The easiest way up the mountain is to walk up the 300 wooden stairs to the viewing platforms or take the more strenuous option of hiking up the back of Sugarloaf Mountain from Wetmore Landing. Either way will reward hikers with an amazing view! 

The three viewing platforms at the top of Sugarloaf Mountain give breathtaking views of the lake, Marquette, and Presque Isle. Tourville Apartments is a 10-minute drive from Sugarloaf Mountain. 

Upper Peninsula Children’s Museum in Downtown Marquette, MI

The Upper Peninsula Children’s Museum is an interactive children museum and non-profit in Downtown Marquette, MI. The UPCM bought and renovated a former warehouse to make the children’s museum. It opened in 1997. 

All the exhibits in the museum were designed in accommodate children and families. Some of the museum’s hands-on exhibits are Creature Kingdom, The Fantastic Forest, The Human Body, and many more! 

The museum was created for toddlers to grade-schoolers but will bring joy to all ages. Children younger than two get free admission to the museum.
